Lecithin (Phosphatidylcholine) Plantovitamins 100 softgels
Lecithin is a source of essential fats such as choline and inositol. It is an essential substance in our body and, among other things, a building material of the cell membranes. Via these cell membranes, all kinds of (nutritional) substances pass in and out of the cells. Because lecithin has the ability to bind to both water- and fat-containing substances, it is essential for fat metabolism. These lecithin softgels are extracted from GMO-free soy and contain 22% phosphatidylcholine.
Background information
Lipid metabolism is the process by which fatty acids are digested, broken down for energy or stored in the human body for later energy use. These fatty acids are a component of triglycerides, which make up most of the fat people eat in foods such as vegetable oils and animal products.
Choline is an important substance similar to a vitamin, amino acid or mineral. Choline is a 2-hydroxyethyl-trimethylammonium salt. Choline is partially produced in the liver. This is not sufficient to meet physical needs. Intake from the diet is therefore essential in many cases.
Tissues
A damaged cell membrane may be the result of a deficiency of choline, which disturbs the structure. Adequate intake of choline is then necessary to maintain normal structure.
Liver
Choline is needed to maintain healthy lipid metabolism (in the liver) that is responsible for healthy processing and transport of fatty acids and cholesterol, among others. Without this metabolism, these substances will accumulate in the liver.
Brain
Metabolites of choline contribute to a healthy nervous system. It is important in sending and processing impulses in the peripheral and central nervous system so that they can take place in a fast and efficient manner. Partly because of this, it plays an important role in the brain in cognitive functions such as learning, memory and concentration.
Cardiovascular
The amino acid homocysteine is produced as an intermediate in the body during the conversion of S-adenosylhomocysteine, a substance derived from A-adensylmethione, into the amino acid methionine. If this conversion is not processed normally, it can lead to increased levels of homocysteine in the blood. This has a link to cardiovascular disease. Normal conversion or breakdown of homocysteine to methionine requires betaine. Betaine is a substance formed from choline.
