Natural GABA-450 contains natural PharmaGABA, produced by the Lactobacillus hilgardii bacteria, which is well absorbed by the brain. This is in contrast to synthetic GABA, which is made from pyrrolidinone, a substance banned in Japan.
Differences between Natural GABA and Synthetic GABA:
Absorption:
Natural GABA: Good absorption in the brain.
Synthetic GABA: No uptake in brain, but has effect via uptake in enteric nervous system (communication between brain and digestive system).
Harmful substances:
Natural GABA: Contains no harmful substances.
Synthetic GABA: Contains at least 0.4% pyrrolidinone, a banned substance in Japan.
Origins:
Natural GABA: 100% natural, produced by the Lactobacillus hilgardii bacteria.
Synthetic GABA: 100% synthetic, with pyrrolidinone as a residue, used for plastic production.
Synthetic GABA: Effects vary by study, presumably due to better permeability of GABA through the blood-brain barrier due to a high concentration of nitric oxide (NO).
